Another genre of photography I spent a lot of time on is wildlife photography. Last year I invested in a second hand 500mm lens to test the waters & see if it was something I really enjoyed. For those who don't know the cost of these telephoto lenses is in the thousands with some of the best costing over 10k; it is a big investment.

We are very lucky with the amount of biodiversity we have in the prairies. Even in birds there are so many in our area, from eagles & falcons to blue jays & of course all the different water birds. You never know what you will see while out on a backroad adventure but more likely than not you'll see the most wildlife when you forget your camera at home.

Even though I have a telephoto lens that doesn't stop me from using a shorter lens with a shallower depth of field for those dreamy brokeh backgrounds. Since starting to feed all variety of birds at my house they've not only became more used to us, allowing me to get up close, but they bring all their bird friends. This year we've noticed a good handful of birds who never used to come to our house, like a falcon, two species of woodpeckers & even a hummingbird.
