One of my favourite things about summers in Alberta are days spent exploring ghost towns & there is an abundance of them! Whether you're driving back roads or visiting a ghost town there's no shortage of old buildings with forgotten memories.

Orion, Alberta
The first summer I got really into exploring ghost towns, aside from just pulling over on the side of the road & taking pictures, I bought a map of Alberta from the local museum to mark down all of the places with ghost towns. Quite a bit of research went into my map & finding a bunch of places in Alberta I could go. It always intrigued me why these places where abandoned & why certain items were left behind.

I'm always & forever taking photos of not only the landscape but the people I am fortunate enough to explore with. Whether its a close up of some broken glass with someone in the background or using my friend to show how big the place is I've always found that having people for scale really brings another element to photography.

Dorothy, Alberta
This iconic location has been the background for more than one movie the most recent being the newest iteration of Ghostbuster. It's so cool to be able to explore these ghost towns that we can also see on the big screens

Dorthy, Alberta
Probably my favourite thing about ghost towns is long forgotten vehicles. Unfortunately this vehicle has now been taken apart & is missing some pieces but it certainly was beautiful before that happened. There is something about those old cars surrounded by wildflowers & tall grass.

In Alberta you never know what you'll find while driving backroads. There are many gems just waiting to be found. From the highways you can see just as many big barns or old farm houses as you do driving the back roads.
