Wildlife Photography through the years

Ever since first stepping into mountain town galleries & seeing wildlife photos from floor to ceiling I knew I wanted to give nature photography a try. On a family camping trip in 2013 I was lucky enough to get my first taste while photographing a momma bear & her two cubs. While I didn't have a telephoto lens I managed to get lucky with some close up shots of this little cub climbing trees while sitting in my dads truck to keep a safe distance.

This photo of a bluejay is one of the first shots on the new 500mm telephoto lens. After years of building trust with these birds by spending lots of time outside with a jar full of peanuts they come quite close. I managed to get some pretty good photos without a big lens however it is definitely way easier to get those details with a longer lens.

The downside to a telephoto lens is the size & weight of it. It is awkward to carry around & unfortunately does not fit my current camera bag. Despite not always having that extra length to snap photos I don't miss the opportunity to try. This Photo of a deer was taken from a walking trail with my 18-70mm lens.

Although this lens doesn't come without its difficulties, like its weight, I am excited to practice with the local wildlife throughout the winter & hit up the Rockies in the spring.
